Many of Asia’s emerging economies have been gradually drawn into participating in this liberal international order led by the United States. Whether we can join forces with these countries in sustaining this international order is a critical question for the future of international politics. Japan’s historical experience suggests that giving preference to militar y affairs over diplomacy will inevitably doom a nation.
